Tubman ES's Wellness Team is made up of multiple disciplines including Counselors, Social Workers, a Dean of Students, a Classroom Support Worker, a Mary's Center Therapist, a Community School Coordinator, a Community Support Worker and a rotating school nurse through Children's Hospital.  

Together we address a range of student and family needs including: 

  • Emotional and behavioral support  

  • Restorative justice  

  • Transitions (ex. transition to the country, transition to middle school)  

  • Crisis intervention  

  • Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons

  • Peer conflict resolution skills  

  • Bullying prevention

  • Connect families with resources such as food programs, a diaper program and support with insurance applications, etc.

About Mary’s Center

Mary’s Center is a community health center serving over 65,000 people of all ages, incomes, and backgrounds in the Washington, DC metro area for 35 years. With an integrated model of health care, education, and social services, Mary’s Center offers each participant individualized care on the path toward good health, stability, and economic independence.

 Services provided by Mary’s Center

  • Medical services (annual exams for the entire family, pediatrics, immunizations, prenatal care, OBGYN, and family planning)

  • Dental services (X-rays, cleanings, screenings, dentures, fillings, extractions, and more!)

  • Mental Health (specializing in cases of anxiety, substance abuse, depression, etc.)

  • Social services (counseling, case management and referrals, home visitation, early intervention for children with special needs, parenting education, prenatal classes, teen after-school program to improve academic achievement)

  • Educational services (family literacy, English and computer training, employment skills training, civic education, early childhood education, medical assistant training certificate, childcare licensing program)

  • Other services (WIC program, Health promotion, enrollment in public benefits including health insurance, food stamps, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families - TANF)
